Obonjan Island Croatia

Architectural Emporium were employed to devise a masterplan for the conversion of a deserted island in Croatia into a holiday destination with ongoing cultural events. The scheme was required to purchase the island and kickstart the development. The proposal involved reinvigorating the pool, the amphitheatre and creating two further stages in the woods and on a new beach. All were linked by a network of paths lined with follies, stalls and artistic installations. The existing buildings on the island were to be converted to form permanent accommodation with temporary accommodation occupying existing camping areas. AE produced a further feasibility study for bespoke accommodation design options. The island reopened in 2016 as a popular destination.
